SHM's Perioperative/Co-Management SIG Journal Club: December 7, 2020

December 7, 2020

We are thrilled to have Dr. Nilam Soni as our featured presenter to discuss whether surgery should be delayed in order to obtain ultrasound, where limited POCUS plays a role, and whether the information obtained changes management in a useful manner that results in better outcomes. The foundation for the presentation will be based around two journal articles from Canty, et al, in 2018 and the follow up from 2019.

Those two specific articles are:

  • Pilot multi-centre randomised trial of the impact of pre-operative focused cardiac ultrasound on mortality and morbidity in patients having surgery for femoral neck fractures (ECHONOF-2 pilot) PMID: 29226957 DOI: 10.1111/anae.14130) and;
  • One-year results of the pilot multicentre randomised trial of preoperative focused cardiac ultrasound in hip fracture surgery PMID: 31042054 DOI: 10.1177/0310057X19838699
