ForwardProcedural Ultrasound
Module Goal
To provide basic instruction and evidence for performing ultrasound evaluation and guidance for bedside procedures in hospital medicine patients.
Target Audience
Providers in any practice setting looking to incorporate point of care ultrasound into patient care in any acute care setting (Physicians, NP, PA, RN, trainees).
Module Learning Objectives
- Understand the indications for using ultrasound in the guidance of bedside procedures
- Describe the optimal machine settings, probe selection, and probe orientation and placement for ultrasound guidance of bedside procedures
- Identify the structures viewed in evaluation for paracentesis, thoracentesis, lumbar puncture, central venous access and peripheral IV placement
- Understand how to use ultrasound to evaluate for the appropriateness and safety of performing a paracentesis, thoracentesis, lumbar puncture, central venous catheterization and peripheral IV placement
- Understand the limitations and pitfalls of using ultrasound for guidance of bedside procedures
