How to be a Hospitalist Opioid Use Disorder Champion: Improving the Quality of Care for Patients

Summary

The hospitalist role in providing effective care for patients with opioid use disorder (OUD) has never been more important. In this webinar, part one of two on the topic, members of the SHM SUD Special Interest Group will discuss the current state of addiction medicine and the roles that hospitalists can take within their practice to overcome barriers and improve the quality of care for their patients with opioid use disorder. Topics will include how to screen patients, building protocols and pathways for treatment, QI projects, orders for discharge, and linkage to care. Additionally, speakers will discuss how to acquire data on the issue and how to start building capacity within the hospitalist team.

Learning Objectives
  1. Participants will understand the current state of the opioid crisis 
  2. Participants will learn methods to screen patients, build protocols and pathways, and link care.
  3. Participants will understand the role that data plays in OUD treatment and how to acquire it.
