Point-of-Care Ultrasound: Clinical Cases and Image Interpretation Practice Questions - Set 2
SUMMARY
More and more hospitalists are now using point-of-care ultrasound as a bedside tool in the care of acutely ill patients, and the Society of Hospital Medicine is expanding its educational offerings to improve hospitalists’ point-of-care ultrasound skills. In addition to offering a hands-on workshop at the annual meeting, as well as a certification program, SHM has begun to offer online education. The Point-of-care Ultrasound Question bank provides an interactive online educational experience for learners to assess their ability to apply knowledge through a series of questions in the context of common clinical cases and image interpretation challenges.
GOAL
Providers will have an understanding of key concepts of point-of-care ultrasound, and recognize normal and abnormal ultrasound images commonly encountered in clinical practice.
TARGET AUDIENCE
This activity is designed for any healthcare providers that care for acutely ill patients (physicians, advanced care providers), primarily specializing in hospital medicine, internal medicine, family medicine, critical care, and emergency medicine.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
After completing the module, the participant should be able to:
1. Identify some normal and abnormal ultrasound findings commonly encountered in clinical practice.
2. Recognize some of the fundamental imaging principles of point-of-care ultrasonography.
3. Appreciate how point-of-care ultrasound findings can be incorporated into clinical decision-making to guide patient management.
