Rapid Clinical Updates: Alcohol Use Disorder: Inpatient Management
Summary
Alcohol use disorders are the most common substance use disorder in the United States and are extremely prevalent among hospitalized patients. Hospitalists should be able to assess and diagnose an alcohol use disorder, manage acute alcohol withdrawal syndrome as well as have a familiarity with post hospitalization care. Participants will leave this session feeling empowered to identify patients at risk for severe withdrawal, select the optimal treatment modality, and initiate evidence-based pharmacotherapy for the treatment of alcohol use disorder.
